Emergent Supports Austin Sunshine Camps

Sunshine Camps Blog PictureSince 1928 the Austin Sunshine Camps have provided summer camp and tutoring programs for high potential, low-income youth here in Austin, Texas. These opportunities are offered at no cost to the campers, who spend a full week participating in outdoor activities such as swimming, fishing, canoeing, hiking, and more. The excitement around this year’s summer camp is heightened as the organization prepares for the opening of a brand new, state-of-the-art lodge located in the heart Zilker Park. The new facility will allow the program to grow more than ever before with an aim to serve over 1,000 in 2015! The anticipation of a new facility is immense and will ultimately result in even more growth and learning opportunities for the youth of Central Texas.

Young Men’s Business League (YMBL), a 100% volunteer organization manages the fundraising and support for the Sunshine Camps. Together, myself, fellow YMBL members and community members will raise over $375,000 which will serve as the operating budget for this years camp session. Camp season is right around the corner and I can’t wait to spend another summer with the campers as they gain confidence, friendships, and new experiences. As a native Austinite it brings me great joy to serve the underprivileged, high-potential youth of Austin.
